Skiing in Canada
From the mighty Rockies in the west to the pretty Laurentians in the east, Canada’s hills and mountains are perfect skiing and snowboarding holiday destinations. Most resorts have their roots in the 1960s when pioneers began seeking out slopes with the right pitch and the best snow. Since then the Canadians have channelled their energy and passion into creating some of the best ski resorts in the world.
One of the great attractions is the diversity – Canada has it all from polished players on the international stage like Whistler, to locals’ hangouts such as Red Mountain. Fernie was a mining town with a ski hill until a few years ago. Tremblant has been created as a cross between a Quebecois village and a theme park.
And the beauty is that in both the west and the east the ski resorts are close enough together to mean that you can visit several on the same holiday. A Ski Safari, or multi-resort holiday, is a very rewarding way to ski or snowboard, allowing you to see Canada and its spectacular scenery as you travel between resorts.
Many of Canada's ski resorts have received considerable investment over the last few years meaning lifts are modern and fast, and accommodation of a very high standard. They are also well organised and focussed on giving their customers the best possible experience.
If you haven’t skied or snowboarded in North America before, prepare for a change. There is more snow falling more regularly through the season, so there is a better chance of powder than elsewhere. The slopes are generally uncrowded and in most resorts you will hardly ever have to queue for a lift. Perhaps most importantly, the people are incredibly friendly.
Our customers tell us that the all round experience of skiing or snowboarding in Canada is hard to beat.
