Yes – Davos has the label “Engergiestadt” and invests in projects on reduction of carbon emissions.
Ski Safari asked Davos resort management how they limit the resort's environmental impact e.g. usage of renewable energy sources, waste management and recycling programmes etc....
The community of Davos (Landschaft Davos Gemeinde) has a special “environment” department and is in charge of projects and research including:
- Green seminars (participants pay a fee that is invested into the limitation on environmental impact)
- Less brochures, more web information
- Less paper
- Support of local farms, products etc.
- Free bus & train system in resort
- Attractive congress ticket by train for convention participants
- Sunstar Hotels Environmental project to limit CO2 emissions
- No air conditioning in resorts (natural air)
- No snowmobiles permitted in resort
- No helicopter skiing
Ski Safari asked Davos whether they promote sustainable tourism e.g. sourcing local food products and supporting local suppliers etc....
Yes - there are approximately 70 farms in the surrounding area from which most hotels source local food products such as milk, butter, yoghurt, eggs, meat, etc. Davos also has its own milk factory and brewery.
Ski Safari asked whether the resort is involved in any local or national social projects e.g. community projects, housing schemes for employees etc....
Yes - the Energiestadt Davos and recycling of products in hotels.
