Our Tips

General:

  • Winter Park is the best value resort in Colorado. If you’re looking for budget, this is the place! The Winter Park Mountain Lodge is the best budget option located 5 minutes from the base, and it has its own shuttle bus.

  • The Zephyr Mountain Lodge is at the base of Winter Park Mountain and is your perfect ski in/ski out property.

  • The newly built Founder’s Point and Fraser’s Crossing Condos have been open since December 07, and these are located 200 yards behind The Zephyr making this another great mountain village option.

  • This is now a great twin centre option, as Intrawest now own Steamboat, Copper Mountain and Winter Park, plus you can take a day out and try the 3rd  resort of choice because of the Three Resort Pass.

  • Great for families - the new intimate resort centre and excellent quality condos makes this a great option for younger families looking for ease of access to the slopes and a quiet atmosphere.

The mountain:

  • Ski School – The ski school is located at The Village at Winter Park and Mary Jane base area.

  • Weather – Colorado prides itself on 300 days of sunshine a year, and at 10, 000feet even on a cloudy day, you will tan.  Always have your sunscreen with you at all times and remember on a sunny day you need to apply it every 2 hours.

On mountain dining:

  • Dine two miles high at the Lodge at Sunspot for re-energizing on soups, pastas and sandwiches.

  • If you fancy something hearty try The Provisioner at The Lodge for The Grill or Buffalo Sandwiches! This place has fantastic views of the Continental Divide.

  • For the boarders try Snoasis and its outdoor BBQ and watch the action on the Dark Territory Terrain Park!

Car hire:

  • If you’re looking for a Colorado Ski Safari with the 3 Resort Pass, I would definitely recommend car hire, exploring the stunning Yampa Valley up to Steamboat.

  • If you’re happy with a ski in/out property in Winter Park Mountain Village, stick with the resort shuttle to take you downtown.

Restaurant recommendations:

  • The Green Olive – best views in town – from pizza’s to their signature New York Steak.
  • De Antonio’s – voted best Italian & pizza in Grand County.
  • Carlos & Maria’s – a taste of Mexico
  • Reservations – Winter Park gets very busy at the weekends as it is 1½ hrs from Denver, so I would book your favourite restaurants as soon as you hit town.

Self catering:

  • There is a big Safeway and City Market in Fraser, the next town.

Best après:

  • Doc’s Roadhouse – great night spot

Shopping:

  • Silver Thorne Factory outlet shopping – you’ll find great bargins here, everything from Nine West, Levi’s, Timberland & Nike. www.outletsatsilverthorne.com
