Red is a resort like no other in Canada. The resort's two mountains, Red and Granite, provide some of the best off-piste skiing in the country and the lack of commercial development means that it attracts people who are most interested in the snow. You take a lift to the top of either mountain and just ski down - almost anywhere you like.

Red Mountain, as the resort used to be called, has produced more Canadian ski team members than anywhere else and remains a genuine local's ski area. Not necessarily a good choice for families but for those wanting a unique and challenging ski experience, this is the place. Accommodation is either in a collection of B&Bs on the mountain, or in the nearby old gold-mining town of Rossland.

Whitewater - If you are skiing at Red, you should definitely try and make it to Whitewater for a day. The resort, near the town of Nelson, has some awesome off-piste terrain.
