Set within the stunning Banff National Park, the Banff Lake Louise area is the centre of skiing in Alberta and very popular with British skiers. This section of the Rockies has very reliable snow conditions and a long ski season running from late November to late April.

The three ski areas of Lake Louise, Sunshine Village and Banff Mount Norquay - all covered by the excellent Tri-Area lift pass - have contrasting terrain appropriate for all ski abilities. Perhaps the most special feature is the scenery. To be skiing amid the Rocky Mountains looking out over miles and miles of mountain wilderness is an experience that brings people back to holiday here year after year.

The bustling town of Banff gives easy access to the 2 ski areas of ‘Sunshine Village’ (18kms away) and ‘Mount Norquay’ (6kms away) but is a 45 min drive away from the Lake Louise ski area, see map. Shuttles to the ski areas are covered by the Tri-Area pass.

Despite the distance, many choose to base themselves in Banff town to ski the 3 areas rather than Lake Louise as it is a larger town with lively nightlife and plenty of après ski activities. Mount Norquay is a small ski area with 1 mountain and 31 runs...however it has a lot of variety with plenty of carving and freeriding options. Sunshine Village has three mountains that offer everything from easy beginner slopes to some of the most challenging runs in North America…and lots of snow! There is just one property at Sunshine Village, the Sunshine Village Resort, which provides a unique peaceful experience and allows extra early access to the ski slopes.
